What is the true meaning of Christmas?

Christmas season is such a busy time of year and as a society we spend huge amounts of time and money buying presents, going to parties and organising events.   We rush around trying to make it all perfect for those we love, but then sometimes end up fighting and being accused of spoiling Christmas.

But have we as a society forgotten the true meaning of Christmas?   Why are the emergency services at their busiest during the Christmas to New Year season dealing with broken people as a result of too much alcohol or drugs?   Why is it that people are at their loneliest or depressed at Christmas when we see all the ‘perfect Christmas’ that everyone else is having on social media?

Are you struggling with finding answers to your deepest questions such as ‘Where did I come from?‘, ‘What is the real purpose of life?‘, and ‘Where am I going?’…     Did the universe really create itself? Am I just evolved pond scum with relative morals?  Is chasing after money or pleasure until you die and cease to exist really all life is about?

The first 4 words of the Bible state:  “In the beginning, God”, thus declaring God’s eternal existence and Him as first cause of time, matter and of the universe.  In Genesis 1:26-27, God made both ladies and men in His image, thus defining our value, and with complementary, not competing differences.  Genesis 3 describes mankind’s decision to rebel against the Creator and choose the lie to be like God and to redefine good and evil for ourselves.

Isaiah the prophet fortold the birth of Jesus about 700 years before his birth:

Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel..”

Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 53 is one of the most beautiful passages about the coming Messiah.
