Robert continued the series in the Book of Mark; To the casual reader, this section seems a little strange. It may even appear to be disrespectful.
But we understand from comparing scripture that Jesus is perfect. The fifth command is to honor our father and mother.
So in this passage, there was obviously no disrespect intended. Jesus was teaching an important point that He is saying His family is not restricted to just an earthly family.
Jesus response to Mary, his mother, was “Know you not that I must be about my Father’s business”
Jesus is teaching that a relationship with God is not hereditory, but individual.
It is not your upbringing, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus; “You must be born again”.
A relationship with God is not with outwards observance with any rules or regulations that man establishes, but as Jesus says
- it is individual, not hereditary
- it is open to everyone
- God desires a relationship with us
The core of relationship with God is individualality. Is that something that you have?
The will of God is that you would personally know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
