What was different about the way Jesus taught?
Mark records where Jesus comes to Capernaum, where Jesus centered most of His ministry. Jesus taught in the Synagogue, which was a meeting place. Important people would sit on benches called chief seats. Common people sat on the floor normally on the dirt, or flagstones. Torah readers had a special place of honor called Moses’ seat, and the scrolls were stored in a special cabinet for the reading.
Jesus comes and in power and authority in his teaching, taught as one who had authority and not as the scribes who quoted the Torah.
